This listing is for a rare Vintage Victorian Brass Picture Button Jean La Hache.
Jean La Hache was a French heroine who helped to defend the town of Beauvais. She encouraged the dispirited soldiers by leaping onto the battlements and hacking at the enemy with an axe. A pierced brass design mounted over a painted metal background. Two piece construction with white metal underliner in the rim.
This exquisite button was added to the button collection of the late Alice E. Mucha of New York in August 2001.
It is shown in The Big Book of Buttons (BBB) on page 49, plate 209-13.
It measures exactly 1.450” (36.83 mm) in diameter and comes from a smoke free, pet free environment.
